NWHL Unveils Jerseys for 2017 All Star Game


The jerseys that Team Kessel and Team Steadman will wear when they take the ice during the 2017 National Women’s Hockey League All-Star Weekend at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex were unveiled on Tuesday.

With All-Star Weekend taking place at the practice facility of the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League, in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, the jerseys will represent the “Steel City” with their black and gold coloring. They will also feature the NWHL’s signature placement of the nameplates on the bottom of the back of the jersey and the 2017 All-Star logo across the front.

Team Kessel will wear yellow jerseys with black and white sleeves adorned with black stars. Team Steadman’s jerseys will be black ones with gray and yellow sleeves with yellow stars.

Pittsburgh native and Buffalo Beauts forward, Kelley Steadman said, “The jerseys have a sharp look and I love how they represent the city of Pittsburgh. It will be fun to show Pittsburgh what the NWHL is all about.”

The All-Star Festivities will begin with the Skills Showdown on Saturday, February 11 and a four-on-four battle for the All-Star Game on Sunday, February 12. Information on tickets, the All-Star Weekend Pass and more regarding the event can be found at www.nwhl.zone/allstar.

New York Riveters general manager and head coach, Chad Wiseman will lead Team Kessel behind the bench, while Riveters assistant coach, Sis Paulsen, will guide Team Steadman.

The rosters will include Boston Pride goaltender Brittany Ott and Connecticut Whale netminder, Nicole Stock between the pipes for Team Kessel. In front of the goalies will be blueliners, Kacey Bellamy and Gigi Marvin of the Pride, Courtney Burke of the Riveters and Megan Bozek of the Beauts.

Amanda Kessel, of the Riveters will have teammate, Rebecca Russo, along with Harrison Browne of the Beauts, Megan Duggan, Zoe Hickel and Hilary Knight of the Pride as well as Kelli Stack and Dana Trivigno of the Whale up front.

Steadman will have Beauts teammates, Brianne McLaughlin between the pipes, Emily Pfalzer on defense and Shianne Darkangelo and Corinne Buie at forward.

Team Steadman will also be represented by goalie, Katie Fitzgerald, defenders, Kaleigh Fratkin and Ashley Johnston and Madison Packer of the Riveters, as well as defenseman, Blake Bolden, forward Alex Carpenter and Brianna Decker of the Pride and forwards, Kelly Babstock and Haley Skarupa of the Whale.

Steadman and Kessel were selected as captains for the 2017 NWHL All-Star Game due to their connections to the Pittsburgh area. Kessel is the younger sister of Penguins forward, Phil Kessel, while Steadman serves as the Director of Hockey Operations at Robert Morris University.
